The music from the fifties, sixties, and seventies is classified as oldies. The oldies music is separated by genres including R&B, rock, and pop. There were many progressive movements in the oldies era including doo wop which inspired the styles for fashion, community, and a certain way of life.
The Beatles was a an oldies band that never lost its popularity. Their music has been inspiration for the world for many years. They started the hype of the British Invasion. The British Invasion was a term used for the music groups from Great Britain that reached huge popularity in the states. The Rock Band game for video game systems recently created a Beatles edition. Rock band let players act like they are in the band and use game controllers like the drums, guitar or bass guitar to play music. The Beatles edition of the game includes all of their greatest hits.
The Beatles were popular for ten years from the sixties to the seventies. The band was originally from Liverpool and the members were George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, and John Lennon. They got the nickname of the fab four from Liverpool. They were not only a huge success in England, they became very famous in the U.S. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, they sold more records in the United States than any other solo artist or band. The Beatles had some number one hits that remain popular and can still be heard on the Internet Radio as well as traditional radio.
The Beatles had forty-two number one singles from 1962 to 1976. The Beatles Number One Hits website has all of the singles. The first number one hit in 1962 was Love Me Do. This song was first popular in England, and it did not reach number one in the states until 1964.
They had five chart toppers in 1963. Twist and Shout was one of the most memorable hits of that year. It was a great song that had fun dance moves to go along with it. The Beatles almost had double that number of hits in 1964. They had nine songs that reached number one that year. One of the most memorable songs from that year was A Hard Day’s Night and it can still be heard on many oldies radio stations.
In 1965 they continued dominating the charts with eight number one hit singles. After that year the number of singles started to decrease. The only had four number one hits each year between 1966 and 1969. During the seventies, the Beatles success began to slow down, and they had only two number one hits in 1970 and in 1976 they only had one number one song.
However, many of their songs remain popular on the oldies stations and it is not only older people that enjoy them. People of all ages enjoy The Beatles. American Idol even featured music of The Beatles on one of their episodes.
